Stunning location, a little bit off the beaten track, but well worth the minor roads to get there. Only 6 miles or so from Shap (A6). Take the road adjacent to the reservoir for 4 miles to the car park at the far end (this is where you turn around to come back). Amazing scenery and very peaceful. Will be back at some point (it's been 20 years since my last visit) to take a walk round the reservoir (around 10 miles). Unspoilt and not busy (except for those serious about walking)......dark skies would be incredible.

This is mine and my wife's special place we've been staying in the area and walking for the past 34 years. It's a wonderful place to visit whatever the weather.

Been coming here since I was a small child and still love it. Free parking and access to some of Britain's most stunning landscapes. Walks in this area vary a lot in difficulty and if venturing out onto the tops its strongly recommended to take a map and know how to use it!

Beautiful location. Did a fantastic walk to Selside Pike and Branstree. The views are amazing. This body of water flooded Mardale Green and Measand villages to supply more water to Manchester which were demolished to construct the dam.
